Born and raised in Michigan, I have always loved being outside. The youngest in a family of 6, we were always active and on the go. This pushed me to be involved in a variety of activities from a very young age. Sports, hiking, camps, skiing (water and snow), arts and crafts, music (cello, piano, and flute), reading and traveling. As an adult, my interests have really grown in photography, travel, golf, crafting, and scuba diving. Travel has played a huge role in my life. Growing up, my family managed to visit all but two of the contiguous United States. After that, I traveled to Canada, Mexico, England, France, Spain, Costa Rica, Australia, Thailand, and Greece. I am extremely outgoing and love new adventures!
In August 2015, I married my best friend and became Mrs. Gibson. Together we fostered dogs through the Wake County Animal Shelter, hoping to give them a second chance. We lived in North Carolina for 7 years, and learned to be a bit southern, but then it was time to come home. Moving back to Michigan, we settled in Traverse City on a small historical farm. We are now raising our family, our foster fail dog Layla, daughter Cora, son Brooks, and 7 chickens. We just love the northern Michigan way of life and being surrounded by the most gorgeous lakes in the world. I enjoy water sports, hiking, biking and life on the "farm."
Before leaving Raleigh, I took my love for creativity and innovation to design and create a school's Entrepreneurial Design magnet theme. This is a passion of mine, as I see the enthusiasm students have for inventing and solving problems. As we rolled out the program, we strived to support students curiosity, drive, creativity, perseverance, innovation, communication, collaboration, risk taking, and critical thinking skills. The design of this theme was to emphasize STEM with Design Thinking, and leverage the foundation of community connections and Project Based Learning. I hope that each child leaves this school with more ambition and goals than they did when they enter. May the world be at their finger tips and every day a learning experience!
Now in Michigan, I have had the privilege of supporting K-12 Science teachers across the northern tip of the mitt for the past 4 years. Coordinating learning and supports for teachers across 65 school districts can be daunting, but it is also extremely rewarding. When you find a way to make life easier for a teacher, aid in engaging their students, getting time for science where there wasn't before, matching a school with a high quality instructional material, or helping teachers grow; there really is nothing like it. I feel so privileged to wake up and take on this task for the teachers across the region, and to be a voice at the state for our northern Michigan educators.
